By 2018 the NXT Takeover series had already gained a formidable reputation for great wrestling action, and when NXT Takeover returned to Chicago in June of 2018 it was coming back with the latest instalment in the bitter war between former DIY tag team partners, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, as they faced one another in an epic 35-minute street fight. In addition to that, Aleister Black was defending the NXT Title against Lars Sullivan, Women's Champion, Shayna Baszler was putting her title on the line versus Nikki Cross and Velveteen Dream battled Ricochet.

In one of the most famous wrestling pay-per-views of all time, ECW was revived under the WWE banner for One Night Stand in 2005. The show was a tribute to a wrestling company that, with limited resources, had revolutionised professional wrestling in the 1990's before going out of business in 2001. Here, among other matches, Lance Storm faces Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit takes on Kurt Angle, Psicosis and Rey Mysterio do battle and The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer go up against The Dudley Boys, and all the while, wrestlers from Raw and Smackdown have threatened to invade the show.

In 2015, WWE took Elimination Chamber from its traditional spot in February and plonked it into the middle of a busy period of shows which included 3 WWE Network Specials in the space of 6 weeks. The upshot was this show which featured Kevin Owens' main roster debut, the first ever tag team Elimination Chamber match, Seth Rollins defending the WWE Title against Dean Ambrose, and a battle for the vacant Intercontinental Title in another Chamber bout.
